Getting ready to make the big move? It can seem daunting. Whether you start out thinking packing is a cinch or you dread it from the word go, it can often get the better of us. There’s
a lot to do, but with just a little forethought you can make moving home a far easier and efficient process. In this post, we are going to equip you with the secrets to successfully packing up and moving out.

Get Your Packing Supplies Ahead of Time
Before you get started, you’re going to need to get your supplies together. If you start without making sure you have all your packing supplies, you’ll likely end up with a pile of open boxes or stacks of breakable items you can’t pack. All because you forgot the tape or ran out of bubble wrap. Preparation is key. Buy your boxes, bubble wrap and tape ahead of time – nothing breaks up the flow of packing like running out of bubble wrap.

It’s Never Too Early to Start Packing
Whilst you may not run out of tape because you checked and restocked on supplies before you started, you may encounter other hiccups. It only takes a couple of things to throw you off schedule and leave you busily packing up to the last day. Avoid this by starting early. You can start in rooms you use least with the items you’re unlikely to need before your move. Of course, we don’t think you should give up showering two weeks before you move because you packed all your towels, but you could make a start clearing out your bookshelf.

Declutter and Donate
Speaking of your bookshelf how many of those are you going to read again? Don’t be afraid to get rid of a few things. A house move is the perfect time to declutter and we are sure there are plenty of charities that would appreciate your donations. Whether you purge your bookshelf, cut back your wardrobe or finally get rid of those DVDs of films you stream online now, there’s plenty of ways to declutter. Save as many new purchases as possible until after you move. If you’re going to need something soon after moving you can always use a parcel delivery service and pick it up once you’ve moved – no point being your own courier.

Pack One Room at A Time
Focus on one room at a time. Not only will it give you a sense of accomplishment to have one room fully packed (rather than four partially packed rooms) but it is also easier to stay organised this way. Whilst you’ll be putting boxes from each respective room together this way, don’t forget to also mark the boxes. You can mark them with what’s in them or just the room they’ll need unpacking in. Make sure to mark the boxes on the sides as marking them on the top makes it difficult to identify them once they’re stacked.

Moving home is a big life event. Unfortunately, it can feel like there’s no time to celebrate. You get caught up in packing and it starts to become a chore. Thankfully there are plenty of ways, like those above to make the process go easier and faster. With a little planning, the whole process can be made easier. Being organised and methodical will pay off, helping the move go smoothly even down to unpacking in your new home. After all, the sooner you get unpacked and settled into your new home the sooner you can throw a housewarming party and let the celebrations begin.
